Is there interest in a port of (Re-)Alpine for OS/2

Mon, 07/26/2010 - 18:49

[Moderator note: If you wish to respond to this post, please email the author directly at npsDESPAM@DESPAMzeta.org.au (Remove the DESPAM)]

Hi all.

For some years, I've been maintaining an OS/2 port of the Pine mail system developed at the University of Washington, more recently known as Alpine. The University of Washington itself no longer maintains Alpine, though some other folks have taken up the code under the name "Re-alpine" ( http://re-alpine.sourceforge.net ).

I haven't done anything with Alpine since the University of Washington released its last version, so I'm wondering if

  (a) anyone is actually using Alpine for OS/2 any more;
  (b) anyone is interested in a Re-alpine for OS/2; and
  (c) if anyone else is interested in taking over the port?

The existing OS/2 port supports the mail client, the POP and IMAP servers, the Pico text editor, and a few utility functions. Web Alpine does not work and may never work (I can compile it but I think it needs major modification to work under OS/2, if it can be made to work at all.) See www.zeta.org.au/~nps/software/alpine for more information.

Let me know if you have any answers for the questions above.

Qspeedtest revision 43 - 20100723

Fri, 07/23/2010 - 16:05

QSpeedTest is a GUI tool written in C++ and Qt for evaluating the latency and speed of an Internet or LAN access by pinging and concurrently downloading test files from a customized list of target servers.

revision 43 - 20100723

QSpeedTestCLI:

* IT\'S BACK!

libspeedtest:

* Fixed a bug that caused ugly X-axis result in Google Charts for download groups with  speeds exceeding the ADSL2+ threshold

* Fixed a bug that caused a problem in the X-axis scaling in Google Charts for download groups

* Fixed a bug that caused an extraneous empty column in the bbCode output, when posted

QSpeedTest:

* Enabled horizontal scroll bar in the QPlainTextEdit widget of the results + a work-around to deal with the cancellation of the autoscrolling when the horizontal scrollbar is enabled

* \"Copy plain text report to clipboard\" now copies the complete contents of the QPlainTextEdit widget. Until now it missed the detailed ping and download results. It was not by design, I just completely forgot about it! :P

Test new UNIAUD audio driver build please!

Fri, 07/16/2010 - 11:41

Hello everybody,

I'm sending this email on behalf of David Azarewicz and Paul Smedley. David has been doing a lot of work on the UNIAUD driver to clean out none properly working source code. We would like to ask you to download the current build of UNIAUD. With the new builds older builds of
UNIAUD32.SYS will also no longer duo to required changes in UNIAUD16.SYS. Hangs on HDA hardware should happen in no way anymore. A lot of memory allocation routines have been cleaned up and improved. UNIAUD also has buffer _under_ run recovery. Which should improve video playback in genereal and people using the Emperoar TV application ( http://www.s-t.de/emperoar/ ):

Some of the recent improvements:
* Audio and video synchronisation with this build should be much better
then ever before.
*Overwriting memory, no boundary checking was sometimes done, now it
does.
*Updates to the code that scans the PCI bus.

But as with all of these changes we do need people to test UNIAUD, get your build here:
svn.netlabs.org/uniaud

Grab the latest beta package:
"The latest BETA release is 1.9.3 / 2.1.0: "

If you have UNIAUD installed on your system you can copy UNIAUD16.SYS and UNIAUD32.SYS to your \MMOS2 direcyory and reboot. If you run into problems please open a ticket on SVN.NETLABS.ORG/uniaud For opening a ticket see this scetion on the website "Submitting Tickets"

Some people have bene reporting that there system sounds are repeating, like for example the startup sound is played and then its played again, completely. This is not caused by earlymeminit=true in the config.sys or ACPI or the SMP kernel. We are working on this and it somehow seems related to qrymmcd.exe in the config.sys. A semaphore from MMPM.DLL seems to be getting mixed up. We are working on locating this.

Thanks

Roderick Klein
